BSL Finishes 2008 Calendar Year
Off with a Resounding Win In a meet that saw 14 teams competing at Wald Park for the BSL Holiday Splash championship, BSL walked away with the men's, women's, and combined team championships. Finishing 2nd in all categories was Baldwin Mobile Aquatic Club. Several BSL swimmers achieved new Stepping Stone times over the course of the meet, with several obtaining new Southeastern cuts. Those swimmers were: Bronze: Mary Cash, Mary Beth Duckett, Will Freeman, and Sophia Warner SEQT: Anna Laura Held, Edward Huang, Elizabeth Lapham, and Madeline Pitt Blue: Salvatore Cuneo and Jonathan Hess Red: Jessica Bilek, Nicholas Confessore, Liam Herb, Lauren Lamerton, and Grace Pitt White: Emily Allen, Ryan Hanson, Madeline Pitt, Buddy Holsombeck, and Mary Anne Powell A small contingent of BSL 14 and under's will next be in competition at the Baylor IMX meet, while the full squad will be traveling to the Pilot Invite in Knoxville. BSL TEAM DOCTOR Jeffrey R. Dugas, M.D., treats all types of orthopedic sports injuries, including injuries of the shoulder, elbow, knee, ankle and foot. He also performs total joint replacement surgery of the shoulder and knee. He maintains a special interest in throwing athletes, since much of his research concentrates in this area. He is certified in cartilage and meniscus transplantation for the treatment of arthritic defects of the knee. He is board certified in Orthopedic Surgery and the sub-specialty of Sports Medicine. B.S.L. - "A TRADITION" Founded in 1965 by Jack Barnacastle and the other summer league coaches to keep swimmers active year round. BSL has evolved into a program that offers the finest in aquatic instruction and training. Emphasis is on individual development and a concern for healthy minds as well as healthy bodies. BSL swimming teaches not only technique but the values of hard work and sportsmanship as well. BSL is incorporated and owned by its membership, while directed and operated by a full time professional staff for benefit of the children of Birmingham and the surrounding areas. |
| B.S.L. COMPETITION BSL competes in U.S.A. swimming meets with competition ranging from novice to the national level. As a group, BSL hosts 5 - 6 meets annually and competes in meets from the local to the national level. Swimmers compete against others of similar ability. The BSL coaching staff enters swimmers in meets that are in the best interest for the swimmer's development. |
